Online MBCT/MBSR Lesson 7

Opposite Action

On the next few pages, we'll be looking at how we tend to want to act in response to feeling sad or depressed, anxious, stressed, or angry, and what opposite action might entail. As we start each section, you'll be asked to evaluate your triggers (things that make you sad, anxious, stressed, angry), and how you tend to behave when you're feeling these ways.

Take a few moments now to think about what are some things that make you sad, how you know when you're feeling sad or depressed, and how you tend to act when you're feeling sad or depressed. Then write down your response in the "What are some things that make me sad (triggers)?", "How do I recognize this feeling?" and "When I'm feeling this way, how do I tend to act?" sections of Question 1 of the Opposite Action Worksheet below in your notebook, or in the downloadable PDF or Word version.

Later, you'll have a chance to consider what actions might serve you better and complete the "Opposite action, or some more helpful things I could do" sections. Don't start Questions 2-4 yet. You’ll be filling these out later in the session.
